David Rovics – New Orleans

David Rovics recently finished a New Zealand tour. Playing at folk clubs across the country he sang of corporate and capitalist domination, environmental justice, and biographical tales of resistance in defense of mother earth and her powerless.

What a pleasure it was to meet David, to hear his music and to see the smiles and solidarity on the faces of the mostly white middle class and middle aged Folkies as they were challenged by stories of revolutionary love and sacrifice. At the show in Wellington I turned around to see two 70-ish year old women, well dressed and looking like they hadn’t been locking themselves to bulldozers and fighting police recently with their fists in the air shouting along with the chorus… “Burn it Down!, Burn it Down!, We’re going to Burn it Down!!!”.

I wonder if they had anything to do with what happened to that big Mitre Ten store that was torched not too soon afterwards?

Good onya Dave! 🙂
